Proxy Check-Out Policies and Procedures
Many faculty utilize graduate assistants in checking out materials on their behalf. With regard to the McKusick Law Library, the policies are as follows:
1. The law library will ensure that it has a current list of the graduate assistants assigned to each faculty member available at the Circulation/Reference Desk.
2. Unless the faculty member notifies the law library staff to the contrary, the person staffing the Circulation/Reference Desk will allow a graduate assistant to check out an item on behalf of a faculty member, provided that they have verified that the graduate assistant is currently assigned to the professor. If you do notify the library staff that you do not wish for your GA to have this authority, please specify how you would like to handle check-outs by your GA. For example, if you wish to be called or contacted via email to provide permission to check out individual items.
3. In all cases, the library staff will send an informational email to faculty members notifying them of the title of all items checked out by the GA on their behalf and the date of check-out.
For more information on utilizing graduate assistants to check out materials from I.D. Weeks, please see the tab on this LibGuide titled "Checking Out Materials."
Graduate Assistant Research Training
